A community of Maamobi, Accra Ghana were thrown in confusion after the news of an aborted fetus was broke by three children who coincidentally came out to urinate in a gutter, around 6:25am this morning.
The rush to catch a glimpse at the scene coupled with the rains of insults and curses on the unknown mother became the order of the day.
As many believe the culprit can’t be stupid enough to be a community dweller, others continue to ask thought provoking questions which are aimed at pointing a culprit.
The assembly man for Maamobi West electoral area, Hon. Ibrahim Cyborg, who single handedly removed the fetus from the gutter, condemned the act woefully.
He described the act as heart-taking, shameful, disgusting abominable and unpardonable. He said “if our forefathers had taken to such act, many of us wouldn’t have grown to this stage”.
He further urged parents and youths in the community to take serious lesson from what has happened and shy away from behaviors that are bound to lead to such inhumane act.
He also assured that he will take a step further to increase the ongoing sensitization on teenage pregnancy and it’s accompanying effect.
As at the time of filling this report, a delegation led by the assembly man has arranged to send the fetus to the Kotobabi police station for further investigation before burial at an undisclosed location..

Red- Hot Liverpool OutShined Arsenal In Seven-Goal Thriller
Arsenal were left ruing their chances as they fell to a 4-3 defeat by Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal started the match with a makeshift defence but did not look shaken as Theo Walcott scored on 30th minute after missing a penalty kick some few moments before. An inexperienced Rob Holding gave a foul away from about 30 yards which gave the Reds the opportunity to shoot at goal and Coutinho converted a glorious free-kick at the stroke of halftime.
Liverpool started the second half with a bang, Adam Lallana finished off a brilliant move with a fantastic strike after the dangerous Reds attackers swarm the Arsenal defence. Free-kick hero, Phillipe Coutinho netted a perfect side-foot volley past Cech to give the visitors their third. Arsenal injury woes increased as Alex Iwobi limped out of the pitch in the 58th minute; Ramsey also got replaced by Santi Cazorla due to injury.
Sadio Mane compounded the Gunners’ troubles as he dribbled past a couple of defenders to strike the ball into the net for Liverpool’ fourth goal. Alex- Oxlade Chamberlain took same inspiration as he skins past three Reds defenders to give his side a second goal. Chambers gave the Gunners a lifeline in the 85th minute as he powered in Cazorla’s free-kick to finish a seven-goal thrilling match.
Arsene Wenger was left devastated at the terrible result right in front of their home fans; this may then cause a panic-buy in the transfer market in a bid to salvage an impending danger for the Gunners going into the Premier League season.

10 Reasons Why You Should Stop Looking For Job As A Graduate!
In all my life, when it comes to source of income, the only thing I have not done is work for anyone in a 9 to 5 job. I made that decision long before I went for higher institution.
I could remember my dad telling us that he is sending us to school to acquire academic knowledge but that if we want to succeed financially in life, we should be thinking of starting our own business. Those were my guiding words all my year in school.
So, while in school, I made sure I had a profitable business. In fact, it was the proceeding I used to see myself through and even start a better business after graduation. Today, I have a couple of businesses and I still have bigger dreams. I can’t thank my dad enough. Maybe today, I would have been roaming the street looking for job.
If you are a graduate and you are looking for job/employment, honestly, there are at least 10 reasons why YOU will not get a job. So, I will advise you should start building your capacity to start your own business.
Below are 10 reasons why you will not get a job.
1. You Lack The Required Skill
Employers continue to complain about a dearth of skills among graduates. Employers are obviously tired of seeing same set of individuals with same set of qualifications springing up for interviews daily whereas they are in need of someone that will stand out. So ask yourself, what employable skill do I have?
2. You Lack Personal Capability To Deliver
I think many graduates believe in their certificate and not in their individual capability which would make or mar their pursuits of employment. Many lack self-development and I belief you belong to that category. What have you done since you graduate to develop your personal capability?
3. You Are A Product of a Bad Educational System
Poor funding and management of our Educational system in addition to strike has made our institution products a laughing stock. In fact, the curriculum of some studies in the institutions are not in demand. Failure of school curriculum to place emphasis on practical concepts of entreprenuership and too much emphasis on theoretical education than entreprenuership exposure is a major problem.
4. You Can’t Meet Employers’ Unrealistic Demands
Employers stating job experiences as much as 3 years for fresh graduates. Age restriction, height, gender, language and many more, under these tense conditions, hardly will you see a graduate that will scale through and qualify for job application requirement except those who want to cross-carpet..
5. Lack of Digital Skills
In this digital age, if you lack the digital skills and creativity to thrive in relation to your profession, you will surely be chasing a ghost if you are looking for a well paying job.
6. You Are One of the Educated Illiterates
Every employer wants beyond just a certificate. Every employer is out to employ someone with reasoning and intellectual might, not someone who cannot play with a full deck. Someone who knows how to and wants to learn more than what they studied in school and on the job. Someone who can readily bring ideas to the table on how the company can forge forward. Not someone with low reasoning capability who won’t even be able to answer extremely trivial questions. But guess what, that is what many of our graduates are.
7. You Want The Pay But Not The Work
Many Nigerian graduates think of getting employed today and get a car or probably buy a mansion in the next month, based on their salary. You and I know that such only happen in dreams. Success is built over time and with hard work, perseverance, dedication and being focused over the years. Are you willing to make the sacrifice?
8. Too Much Ego With Empty Pocket
I have had the privilege to present some business opportunities to some graduates and all they can say is they can only do administrative work where they sit in an office to be answering yes sir or yes ma. It took someone who is not a graduate to embrace the same opportunity. Today these uneducated persons are 50 times better than the graduate in terms of personal capability, income, value and the caliber of people in their connection.
9. Companies Are Downsizing
I remember visiting a couple of industrial estates in Lagos recently. You will see busy security men at the gate, but when you approach them that you want to go in, they will tell you the company has folded or the workers are on strike. The story is the same across the state and I belief same thing is happening in other part of the country.
10. There Is No Job Out There
Investors are not bringing in money which means no new job opportunity is being created. There is economy recession in the country. Even the companies that are retrenching, what do you think will happen when they become financially buoyant again. I can bet they will simply recall their sacked workers. The reason is simple, it cost more to hire a new staff than to recall an old staff. So, where will you be then?
The Way Forward
The only way forward I see is for you to start something on your own. Do not despise small beginning. If you are going to start a business though, I will advise you focus on evergreen product or services. Those that are always in demand such as Agriculture, Health, Real Estate, ICT, Environmental services, Retail, Travel, Real Estate and maybe some few more.
If you embark on this journey to discover your true potential, I pray for your SUCCESS but if you go down the popular path of seeking for job, I wish you luck.

Father Identifies Daughter In New Boko Haram Video
The father of one of the Chibok girls kidnapped more than two years ago said he recognised his daughter in a video released by Boko Haram today.
A spokesman for the Bring Back Our Girls movement, set up to demand the return of 276 schoolgirls kidnapped in April 2014, said he was “certain” of the identities of 10 other girls seen in the footage.
“When I heard her voice, I realised she is my daughter,” Kanu Yakubu told reporters in Abuja.
He was referring to Maida Yakubu, whom he identifies as the girl seen in the video choking back her tears as she describes an air strike by the Nigerian armed forces.
The girl speaks in the Chibok dialect.
Bring Back Our Girls spokesman Abubakar Abdullahi earlier today said at least one of the girls had been recognised by a member of the movement.
The number of girls identified from the video has now risen significantly, he said.
“We’re certain that these are the Chibok girls,” Abdullahi told AFP.
“We recognise up to 10 from the video,” Abdullahi said, adding that he is waiting for confirmation from the Nigerian government and parents of the girls before releasing any more names.
The video shows a masked man holding an assault rifle and dressed in military clothing.
In the background, several girls wearing Islamic clothing look visibly distressed and dab their eyes.

Police Arrest Two Friends For Killing Okada Rider In Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two friends who allegedly killed a commercial motorcyclist, identified as Thomas Amusan on Ile-Oluji/Ipetu Ijesa Expressway in Ile-Oluji Oke Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Mr. Femi Joseph, the suspects are : Rilwan Rasheed and Sheu Akande.
The incident occurred on August 8, 2016.
The PPRO who spoke to Naijaloaded on Sunday said the suspects asked the commercial motorcyclist to take them to one of the villages in the area but later killed the deceased on the way and took away his motorcycle.
He said, ” They asked the deceased to take them to a nearby village; on getting to a junction, they asked the man to stop and as they were trying to snatch the motorcycle from him, he resisted so they had to start matcheting him till he died.
“After they have succeeded in killing him, they dumped his lifeless body in the bush and took the motorcycle away.”
He added that when the men of the command got the information about the incident, they swung into action and through an intelligent move, the suspects were apprehended.
Joseph saaid the suspects would soon be charged to court.
Similarly, the police spokesman said the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command had arrested two suspected cultists, identified as Wale Olakole and Gbenga Francis at Iyere in Owo Local Government.
He explained that Olakole was the leader of Ave Confraternity.
Joseph said the suspects had confessed to the crime and they would be made to face the wrath of the law.
Some of the items found on the suspects, according to the PPRO included: two locally-made pistols, cutlass, charms and some other dangerous weapons.

State Of The Music Industry:- See The Main Reason Why Nigerian Musicians Don’t Succeed
It seems like less and less people are succeeding with their music career. And I know the meaning of the word success can mean different things to different people, but lots of talented musicians simply aren’t reaching their full potential.
Have you ever seen an act so talented you couldn’t work out why they hadn’t done more? Or seen a band that outshone their mainstream alternatives yet haven’t been swooped up by a label?
These days in Nigeria, we seem to have a number of people succeeding with their music career. Within the past three years, we can roll out a pretty decent list of music acts who have hit the big time.
They include Adekunle Gold, Runtown, Patoranking, Kiss Daniel, Korede Bello, Reekado Banks, Lil Kesh, and a few others.
But we also do have a lot of others who are so insanely talented that you begin to wonder why they haven’t done more and achieved their potential. We see a shade of these also when an artiste works his heart out, gets the right attention, but fails to find investors. These acts fail to reach their full potential, and it can be frustrating for both the artiste and everyone around them.
There are many reasons why musicians don’t become their best version or quit, but in all of these, one of these reasons overrides all of the others. It is the lack of the right mentality.
By referring to the right and proper mentality, we mean possessing the right focus, drive, and frame of mind to carry out that which you want to achieve. Without those qualities your music simply won’t hit any height.
If you crave success in music, you need focus and drive. Why do you want to do music? What is the driving force behind your decision to do music? Do you want your music to reap you benefits and dividends? Do you want to be able to make a living from something you enjoy doing rather than working a 9-5? Irrespective of the specific reason, write it down, and remind yourself of it every day. Don’t lose sight of that reason because when you do, you lose your music.
As soon as you lose focus of the reason why you do music in the first place, you drive will begin to fade. This is why many people end up quitting before they have seen real results. Remember, when embarking on a music career you won’t see instant success. It’s not a get rich quick scheme, and it takes much work and dedication. There are many platforms for learning about the music business, (Pulse included), but even then you need to retain the drive to keep pushing yourself till you start seeing results.
After understanding and holding on to the reason why you are in music, and become determined to achieve your aim, you need to arm yourself with the right mentality to actually execute what you need to do. Believe it or not, many musicians know exactly what they need to do to achieve things, yet they don’t do it. And this is not exclusive to those in music, this is a trait a lot of people have when it comes to all different things.
Music can be a full time job, but not everyone may afford the time to throw into it. Therefore, when you do have time, you need to put it to best use. It’s pretty easy to simply chill at home, smoke weed, have mind-blowing s*x, and find new ways to entertain yourself and reject the chance to work at your craft. But this is not going to help your music. To grow your work, you need to push yourself and just do things, even if you can’t be bothered at the time. Eventually, you will get into a routine, and your muscle memory will make things effortless. Get your ass of that chair and put in the hours, or nothing will become of you and your talent.

Massive Python Killed In Ebonyi State….Ends Swiftly In The Cooking Pot (Photos)
A big python was killed in the South-eastern part of Nigeria by some locals who hurried prepared it for eating.
The killing of this python snake has sparked controversy on Facebook as a social media user claims a python in Ebonyi State is equal to a human being and killing it could diabolically lead to the demise of a human being.
Meanwhile the locals seemed to have gone far with the processing of the animal which would obviously be in their tummies as at press time.

Sports Ministry “Solomon Dalung” Refunds Mikel’s $4,600
Few days ago, We posted a news on how Mikel Obi rescued the Team from being disgraced in Brazil by giving out $4,000 for their Hotel Bill, Read HERE
The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports has refunded the $4,600 paid for the team in São Paulo on their way to Salvador by the Dream Team’s captain, Mikel Obi.
The ministry also assured players and officials of the team that they will be given all that is due to them.
The Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Chinyeaka Ohaa, said this while addressing the players and officials after the 2-0 defeat of Denmark in Saturday’s quarter final match in Salvador.
He said:-
“I am happy to be a Nigerian, because in spite of all the challenges, you have taken the world by storm; you have by your performance given happiness to more than 160 million Nigerians.
Football is the biggest unifying factor in Nigeria today. From Mr. President to the average Nigerian you have made everyone proud today.
“I am humbled by your efforts, your commitment, your patriotism. I want to assure you that your sacrifices will not be in vain. Aside whatever the NFF have for you, we will as much as possible make you happy, if only you will be patient with us. Today, with your performance, I am convinced that you will get that gold.”
In his response, Mikel said:-
“We want to thank you for your fatherly support. In truth, there have been a lot of challenges, but every time we go onto the field, we forget about everything and make sure our fatherland comes first.
“We have done that so far and we will continue to do that, but we need more motivation.”

The Rivers State Police Command have arrested a man named Nwanaka Egbo, who reportedly abducted his elder sister, Nwanaka Ada, and demanded a sum of N10m for her release.
This was confirmed by Nnamdi Omoni, the state Police Public Relations Officer, who told the press on Friday, August 12, 2016, when the suspect was being paraded.
Nwanaka reportedly did this in collaboration with his friend, who kept her in captivity.
“On the 31st of August 2016, while Egbo was in his barbing salon, a friend of his came to him and told him that they should kidnap his (Egbo) sister.”
“Egbo directed some members of his gang to his elder sister room, where she was kidnapped.”
“The gang later demanded for a N10 million ransom. But with our investigation, security operatives stormed the hideout of the gang and rescued the Egbo sister (Ada Nwanaka), who is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.”
“Egbo’s friend, who planned the kidnap with him, was killed during a shootout with operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the State Police Command.”
The woman was rescued in the course of a rescue attempt by armed policemen, who killed his accomplice in a fierce gun battle.

Our Initial Difficulties Inspired Us, Siasia Speaks On Olympics Victory
Nigeria’s Dream Team IV Coach, Samson Siasia, said the initial difficulties encountered by his team en route the ongoing Rio de Janeiro Olympic games inspired the team to achieve success. The team rallied to spank the Danish team, 2-0 to qualify for a semi-final of the soccer event.
“We all know it was not easy, nobody wants to be in the situation we were in weeks ago when we were still in Atlanta. But, your circumstances should not determine what goals you set yourself and what you want to achieve.
“It was very difficult circumstances. We struggled to get here. But there is oneness, a team spirit and a willingness to overcome,’’ Siasia said.
According to him, the boys are together and they want to make sure that they can succeed in spite of all troubles. I am proud of what they have done.
On what they could do in the final if they would meet Brazil, Siasia said “we saw what they did to the Danish team. They are a good side. They did not start well, but the most important thing is how you end.
“We still have one game to go; we are not worrying about Brazil now. If we get to the final together, then we will see what we can, to make sure we get the gold medal’’. The coach said.

Meet Us In The Creeks – Militants Dare Army & Naval Chiefs
THE Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, this morning, confronted the Commander of Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie and Commanding Officer, NNS Delta, Commodore Joseph Dzunye, asking them to come to the creeks of the Niger Delta, rather than stay in the cities and arrest “sleeper” agents, who they brand as NDA members to curry favour from their superiors.
Spokesperson of NDA, self-styled Brig General Mudoch Agbinibo, threw the challenge in a statement rebutting the claim by NNS Delta commander on Saturday that two suspects, Stanley Tonghan and Felix Miyenminiye, arrested by the navy, few days ago, were members of the militant group.
NDA said that the two suspects were agents working in conjunction with security agencies and were paid N5 million by two leaders (names withheld) to give Nigeria military intelligence on the activities of the group.
The statement read: “We made it clear that the Nigeria military is using sleepers’ agents to track or checkmate the activities and operation of the Niger Delta Avengers.
But the more they try, the more they run into crisis with their employed sleeper agents.”
“Stanley Tonghan and Felix Miyenminiye that were arrested and paraded by the Nigeria Navy Delta are few of the sleeper agents working for Nigeria Military in conjunction with (two leaders, names withheld) “The suspects (Tonghan and Felix Miyenminiye) was paid 5 Million Naira to give Nigeria military intelligent on the activities of NDA.
On failing to deliver, the suspects were arrested and tagged NDA members, what a shame? the group said.
It added: “Stanley Tonghan and Felix Miyenminiye are not members of NDA we do not know or have any connection with them.
The Navy Commanding Office NNS Delta, Warri(Commodore Joseph Dzunve) is trying to impress his boss in Abuja, but arresting sleeper agents recruited by his predecessor.”
“Any criminal arrested is now an NDA member. Since we (NDA) started the struggle, none of our operatives has been arrested. All those in detention in the name of NDA are not part of NDA, the world should know this.
“Nigeria military have not seen embarrassment. NDA will keep embarrassing you because the only thing you are good at doing in the Niger Delta region is arrest and killing of innocent citizens of the Niger Delta in the name of looking for NDA and illegal bunkering.
“If the Nigeria military is serious about arresting NDA let them come to the creeks of the Niger Delta, that is where we dwell not the city. If I (Brig.Gen Moduch Agbinibo) was the Commanding Officer NNS Delta (Commodore Joseph Dzunve) and Commander of the so-called Operation Delta Safe (Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie), I would have been in the creeks instead of sitting at the comfort of my air-conditioned office,” NDA added.
To the elders of the Niger Delta, the group asserted: “Hope it clear to you our elders that the President Muhammadu Buhari- led government is not reliable, reasonable, responsible and not ready to dialogue.”
It said: “Can you tell the world the government official you been dialoguing with? Is it the President? On the other hand, is there any committee that is set up for it?
We respect you our elders, as such stop behaving, as the Niger Delta is a seized region and stop acting like you are begging the government for dialogue.”
“The worse the government will do is to bombard our villages and towns in the name of looking for NDA. Therefore, our elders should tread carefully with the Nigeria government,” it pointed out.
Its words: “The reason behind military harassment of towns and villages in the Niger Delta is because NDA have not confronted the Nigeria military in battle. We are not scared in confronting you.”
“The creeks of the Niger Delta belong to us, so defeating the Nigeria military is not hard for us. We have made it clear in many occasions that our business is to cripple the Nigeria economy not to kill military.
The Nigeria military should, not we, (NDA) avoiding them, that is a sign of weakness,” the group added.

World Bank Delaying Return Of $321m Abacha Loot — Switzerland
The repatriation of the $321m looted by late Gen. Sani Abacha may not be done anytime soon as the Swiss government says the World Bank has to finalise the projects to be executed with the money by the Federal Government.
The Swiss government explained that a bilateral agreement for the restitution of the money would then be signed afterwards, which would form the basis for the transfer of the money.
The Deputy Head of Mission, Swiss embassy in Nigeria, Daniel Cavegn, said this in an email to inquiries from our correspondent about the time frame for the repatriation of the money.
Cavegn stated that the Swiss government was ready to start the transfer of the fund once all the necessary World Bank protocol and agreements had been taken care of.
He said, “Once the monitoring of the World Bank for the projects chosen by the Federal Government is finalised, we will proceed to a bilateral agreement for the restitution, which is the legal basis for the transfer of the money.

RRS Nabs Men For Stealing 20 Car Batteries At Lastma Office
The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have apprehended one Hakeem Fatai, 24, for allegedly stealing 20 car batteries from the premises of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) at Ojota area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The policemen who acted on a tip-off by the LASTMA’s management about the missing batteries from their premises, laid siege for the suspect, and caught him while attempting to remove another battery from an impounded bus.
It was gathered that no fewer than 20 batteries have been removed from the impounded vehicles which were parked inside the premises within a fortnight.
On his arrival at the RRS’ headquarters at Alausa, the suspect confessed to the crime, saying that he operated with an accomplice he identified as ‘Yahoo’, now at large.
According to him¸ “I am responsible for the missing batteries. But I didn’t work alone. We are a two-man syndicate who usually steal batteries. Our targeted vehicle was Volkswagen bus because its batteries can be removed easily without much stress. We don’t usually go for trailer for its battery is protected with burglary.”
The suspect, who was picked-up at about 2:00 a.m. over the weekend, by the operatives, said that he always scaled the agency’s fence to access the compound and remove the batteries while his accomplice stayed outside to watch the surroundings for him.
“We have devised our operation to the extent that no one could suspect us while committing the crime inside the premises. We know the exact time to scale the fence because their security guards are too fond of sleeping. We capitalized on their inefficiency to strike,” he confessed.
Giving account on why he preferred stealing to legitimate work, the suspect revealed: “Immediately after the death of my mother about ten years ago, after a while, my father re-married. And I felt that once he had remarried, he would shift his attention from us to the new wife. So, I decided to abscond from home to fend for my self.
“I went straight to Mile 12 where I met some young boys like me. I have been living in that ghetto since that time. I tried all sort of jobs but I was not deriving pleasure from them. Even before I finally left my father’s home, he had taken me to where I will learn plumbing work at Ajelogo around Mile 12. Despite all that, I wasn’t satisfied.
“At a particular point in time, I felt tired of this life. This prompted my action to be stealing those batteries”.
The suspect, who is a native of Ijebu-Ode, said that he sold each battery for N2, 500 to one battery charger at Ogijo, suburb of Ogun state.
His confessional statement led to the arrest of the receiver of the stolen items, Nofiu Oriade, 46, the following day by the RRS operatives.
The receiver of the stolen batteries who professed ignorant of the crime, said that he never knew those batteries were stolen items.
“I was ignorant of the sources of those batteries. I thought he was a scavenger who picked up any unused items from refuse dumb. I don’t know he was a thief. I have regretted my action for collecting those batteries from him”, he pleaded.
While confirming the arrest of the two suspects, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus, said that the onslaught to rid Lagos off crime activities was yielding more positive results.
The suspects have been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation.

Nigerian Govt Reacts To New Boko Haram Video Showing “Chibok Girls”
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, says the Federal Government is doing everything possible to secure the release of the Chibok girls and put an end to the horrible saga of their abduction.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by Segun Adeyemi, the Special Adviser to the Minister.
The minister, who was reacting to the latest video of some of the girls, said the government was in touch with those purportedly behind the video.
Some girls wearing headscarves, in the video, were seen behind a Boko Haram militant who demanded the release of fighters in return for freeing the girls. The militant also claimed that some of the girls have been killed in air strikes.
”We are on top of the situation. But we are being extremely careful because the situation has been compounded by the split in the leadership of Boko Haram,” the statment said.
“We are also being guided by the need to ensure the safety of the girls.
”Since this is not the first time we have been contacted over the issue, we want to be doubly sure that those we are in touch with are who they claim to be,” he said.
Mr. Mohammed expressed the hope that the latest development will signal the beginning of the end of the nightmare to which the girls, their families and indeed all Nigerians have been subjected since the unfortunate abduction.

Update: Some Chibok Girls Have Died As A Result Of Aerial Bombardment – Boko Haram
Boko Haram on Sunday released a new video purportedly showing some of the Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped from Chibok more than two years ago, and called for its detained fighters to be freed.
The government said it was in touch with those claiming to be behind the undated video, which shows groups of girls in Islamic dress standing or sitting around a masked man armed with an assault rifle.
The film was issued just days after embattled Boko Haram head Abubakar Shekau denied claims he had been replaced as the leader of the Nigeria-based jihadist group.
The mass kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls from Chibok in April 2014 provoked global outrage and brought unprecedented attention to Boko Haram and its bloody quest to create a fundamentalist state in northeastern Nigeria.
A man wearing camouflage gear in the video called on the government to release Boko Haram fighters in exchange for the girls.
“They should immediately release our brethren in their custody,” the man said, warning that if the prisoners are not released the government will never be able to rescue the girls.
“They should know that their children are still in our hands,” he said in the film posted on YouTube that appears to show some women injured after an air strike.
While President Muhammadu Buhari has said the group is “technically defeated”, his government has struggled to find the girls, an enduring political embarrassment that highlights Boko Haram’s continued presence in the region.
The video was attributed to the original Boko Haram name, not the new Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), suggesting it was released by Shekau’s faction, although it is not known when or where it was filmed.
“There are a number of the girls, about 40 of them, that have been married,” said the man in the 11-minute video. “Some of them have died as a result of aerial bombardment.”
A girl speaking in the Chibok dialect chokes back tears as she describes an air strike by Nigerian armed forces.
In the background, several girls look visibly distressed and dab their eyes. One is holding a small baby.
– ‘Sense of desperation’ –
“This focuses on using the girls as a bargaining chip,” Ryan Cummings, director at intelligence firm Signal Risk, told AFP.
“The video shows that the war effort is hurting the operations of the group,” he said. “It does have a sense of almost desperation from Boko Haram.”
The Nigerian government said it is in contact with those claiming to be behind the video but was acting cautiously given the leadership split.
“Since this is not the first time we have been contacted over the issue, we want to be doubly sure that those we are in touch with are who they claim to be,” Information Minister Lai Mohammed said in a statement.
Last week, the shadowy Shekau appeared in a video vowing to fight on, shrugging off an apparent split after he was said to have been replaced by Islamic State-backed rival Abu Musab al-Barnawi.
Barnawi has criticised Shekau’s indiscriminate and brutal leadership in Nigeria that has seen Boko Haram fighters kill thousands of people in mosques and markets and raze entire cities.
In March 2015, Shekau pledged allegiance to the Islamic State and changed Boko Haram’s name to ISWAP, prompting fears the Nigerian insurgency would be bolstered by its connection to the global jihadists.
However, there have been few signs that Boko Haram has benefited from the alliance, as the Nigerian military recaptures territory once controlled by the insurgents.
Over the past year, the military has announced the rescue of hundreds of people, most of them women and children, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram.
But the missing Chibok girls were not among them, despite several unconfirmed sightings.
– ‘Heartbreaking’ video –
In the hours that followed the 2014 mass kidnap, dozens of girls managed to escape.
Of the 219 still missing, just one was found, Amina Ali, in May this year near the Sambisa Forest area of Borno state, a known Boko Haram hideout.
Abubakar Abdullahi, a spokesman for the Bring Back Our Girls movement, told AFP that one of the girls had been identified in what he described as a “heartbreaking” video.
“One of our members has recognised a girl. We are still in the process of confirming a few of the girls,” Abdullahi said.
“We’ve always believed they will be back, but it’s also painful,” he said, criticising the government for being unable to rescue the girls.
“The frustration will always be there. We failed them on so many instances.”
Boko Haram has been blamed for some 20,000 deaths and displacing more than 2.6 million people since it launched a brutal insurgency in Nigeria in 2009 that has since spread into several neighbouring countries.

Why Buhari Will Become Nigeria’S Best President Ever — Garba Shehu
Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, has responded to growing criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari’s handling of the nation’s economy, saying people were just being unfair to the president.
Mr. Shehu, in an opinion articled sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday, said the last few weeks had witnessed the heaviest public criticism of the Muhammadu Buhari administration since he came to power.
Mr. Shehu said much of the criticisms against the president were based on unresolved social and economic problems facing the country.
“When they ask the question, is this the change we voted for, the critic forgets how far we have come from the scam-tainted years of the PDP rule,” Mr. Shehu said in the article titled ‘In Defence of President Buhari: Is This The Change We Voted For? Yes, It Is!’
Mr. Shehu said, “Unfair criticism of the Buhari administration especially on account of escalating prices of foodstuff and the liberalization of the currency exchange needs to be challenged before it overshadows the commendable job the President has done in fighting terrorism as part of overall effort to secure the country, reducing corruption and yes, arresting the economic slide before it sinks the nation.”
The presidential spokesperson mentioned the achievement of Mr. Buhari to include the “victory” over Boko Haram and the ongoing war against corruption in Nigeria, which he said has earned the country international respect.
“It is a proud moment for many citizens that the country is being perceived differently now that it has a different kind of leader creating a positive buss abroad, the kind of sentiment that can lead to foreign investments when properly capitalized upon.
“Wherever they go these days, in London, Dubai, Beijing, Washington, New York or Tokyo, Nigerians get the good feeling of being asked the question, how is President Muhammadu Buhari?”
Mr. Shehu said the removal of subsidies on petrol products had saved the government more than N2 trillion annually, adding that “The currency liberalization and the deregulation of the petroleum products sale will make President Buhari one of the best presidents till date.”
Comparing the fight against Boko Haram with the war against the global terror group, ISIS, Mr. Shehu said, “How many people have given a thought to the possibility of Nigeria doing something that the combined strength of Europe and America have failed to do?
“There are many today who take for granted the declared victory over the Boko Haram terrorists, forgetting the reign of the bomber who made it almost impossible for regular attendance in Churches and Mosques in many of our cities, including the Federal Capital City, Abuja.
“Victory over Boko Haram has brought peace not only to Nigeria but to the countries in the Lake Chad region.”
On the economic front, Mr. Shehu said the president has been affected by ill-luck in the drastic drop in oil prices.
“In addition to hard work, all leaders need luck on their side to create what is sometimes seen as economic miracles. As leader, President Buhari never had the luxury of high oil prices as did his predecessors in office.
“When he first emerged as the military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari saw oil price, the mainstay of the nation’s economy sank to as low eight Dollars a barrel.
“He rolled up his sleeves, worked on diversification strategy of the economy only to be eased out of power just as they began to take hold. Thereafter, his successors abandoned these efforts.
“On his second coming, this time as a democratically elected leader, the collapse of oil prices has challenged President Buhari to quicken efforts towards the diversification of the economy with emphasis given to agriculture and solid minerals mining.
“Every crisis, it is said, is an opportunity. Not so in Nigeria. This is a county that inherited massive technological inventions from Biafra, yet failed to take it forward. We must not lose this opportunity to diversify the economy and our foreign earnings presented by the present oil crisis.
“As the country hopes for a bumper harvest this year, government is taking steps to ensure that no farmer will sell at a loss or fail to find markets for their harvests. Grain silos are being readied nationwide to receive excess produce for warehousing to ensure food security, avert market glut and price collapse. By this, government will ensure a minimum guaranteed price.”
